Mixed modes rotate across questions in one game. Identification shows a photo first — name the tree.
Identification needs a steady connection. Photos load from iNaturalist as you play.
Recommended: ~5 Mbps or faster (typical home Wi‑Fi is fine). On slow mobile data, expect longer waits; the next question is prefetched when possible.
Lists a few other species that are easy to confuse with this one (same family or similar names).
Keeps drawing random cards from your species pool with no end. Use Cancel to stop. (Default flash is one card per selected species.)
Full ID answers
Full ID shows a photo, then asks common name → family → genus → species. 1 point per step (4 per photo). Modern or older family names both count. Each step is timed (same time per question as the quiz; Typing + "No timer" turns it off, except in Ultimate). Full ID is its own game, so it can't be mixed with other modes.
Answer input (pick one or both)
If both are on, each question randomly uses quiz or typing.

Typing options
Choose Quiz or Typing under Mode above. These options apply when Typing is selected.
Unlimited time while typing (also Full ID with typed answers — v5.0.5). Ultimate / completion test still uses the timer.
Shows names that match what you have typed. When off: Enter shows the answer; Shift = retake for ½ credit (still on Redo). Half points count on the leaderboard.

If a species has no photo of that part, the next part in the button row is shown. The buttons on the photo switch parts any time (no effect on score or timer).

This game helps you learn the common names, families, and scientific names of the Virginia Tech Dendrology species list.
Pronunciations are shown in parentheses. Photos come from iNaturalist (sorted by plant part) with the VT Dendrology library filling gaps; every plant part (bud, twig, leaf, bark, flower, fruit, form) gets asked.
